Co-Conspirators

So, it turns out that if you put a bunch of mischevious people together in one room for long enough and with enough talking and laughing....Crazy ideas will be hatched.  Ordinarily said mischevious people would look like normal humans you might see anywhere in your life...
Exhibit A
 Exhibit B
Exhibit C
DO NOT let their innocent appearances fool you though.  These folks are wickedly creative!  One night while Mom and Jess were visiting Aunt Lois and Uncle Doc in Texas, they got to talking about how much I like sheep...well, scheming really.  I'm not really sure HOW it all went down, but eventually the plan was hatched that Aunt Lois would sacrifice her beautiful sheep to the cause of a good practical joke/gift and Uncle Doc would sacrifice his beliefs on the way to treat a lady and write me a letter about my sheep's creation.  Both sacrifices were GREATLY appreciated (even a lady can understand that it's not really lying if it's for a good hearty laugh) and boy did I get a kick out of opening, planting, and sprouting Gertrude.  I swear, when I walked into the kitchen one day and saw that my sheep seed had sprouted I practically fell over laughing.  Evidentally, while Mom was in Texas, Aunt Lois helped her pack up Gertrude and bring her home in her luggage.  Then they waited...and waited...and when the time was right and I was the least suspecting, they SPRUNG their plot on me.  Uncle Doc acquired the closest thing to sheep "product" as he could get (eeeewww....I watered sheep poo!) and spent time gluing on some fleece.  Then he packaged it all up and they shipped it off to my house.  When the time was right and I was beginning to give up hope on my sheep seed ever sprouting, Mom brought in Gertrude and put her in my pot!!!  Even my dad was in the kitchen for the big discovery and boy did his eyes twinkle.  Mind you, I didn't find out the story until a while later since a)I couldn't quit laughing and b) my mom was being coy with their plotting.

We've got a Bookworm!

Yesterday after school, Tyler and I popped in to the Pinedale Library (Dangerous business that--Having a library, with great hours just a hop, skip and a jump between school pick up and home). We found three Magic Tree House books that Tyler wanted to check out and headed home. Now, keep in mind that our house is about a block away from the library. Tyler asked to read on the way home....great...no problem; it's not very long, but if you want to that's fine. Then we went in to get dinner ready and Tyler settled in here:

He read the whole time I was getting dinner ready whilst munching away on his lunch leftovers. Once he noticed I was taking a picture, he gave me this look:
But the really funny part was that when I told him that as soon as I was done making dinner, he would need to put the book down and spend time telling me about his day. His response to that was, "I would rather read!" In a very sassy, "Mom-you-are-soooo-unreasonable" voice. The book was apparently a page turner, because he read for the whole hour between getting home and getting ready for bed time in order to finish the book.

Nothing says romance like...

a trip to Target....With Matching Handicaps...

UNLESS!!! It's matching wheelie carts going around the store.
Mom and Dad had a wee spot of foot trouble this winter...in the form of a broken foot and three foot surgeries among the pair of them. The whole medical saga is rather boring, BUT when we all went to the store together and I looked back at my trailing parentals, I couldn't help but giggle uncontrollably at these two sights...constantly. No really...I was a source of endless mirth for me that day.

You'll like these mom!

We were shopping at Target this weekend in the dollar section. As I was walking around to look at the different items, I heard Tyler's voice ring out, "You'll like these Mom! It's yarn!" When I went to see what he was talking about, he was holding out two packages of twine! He dropped two in and said, "Here, you can buy two skeins!" But then later decided that I needed a third skein.

Then on Sunday evening Tyler was getting ready for bed in some flannel puppy pajamas when Auntie Kiki told him he needed to watch out or his pajama puppies might bite him. His reply? "Nonetheless, I'll be too High!" (which has nothing to do with an altered state as a result of herbal enhancements and everything to do with altitude) When I asked him where he had heard the word "nonetheless" he replied that it was from Knitting Podcast, of course.

Of course...

These two events, occurring so closely together and fresh in my mind, make me contemplate the external influences that can make an impact in the life this small being whom God has charged me with raising. Just a small reminder to continue to expose Tyler to the good things in life and try to shield him (as much as possible!) from the bad things in life.

Tag

When we were reading our bedtime story tonight, Tyler told me that these deinonichus dinosoars weren't hunting so they could eat this other one....they are just playing tag....and the one deinonychus to the far left of the page is the one that's "It". Yep...Tag.

A Room With a View

Tyler and I have a morning routine that, while not perfect, works for us. You see, if he wakes up before my alarm clock goes off in the morning, he gets to watch an episode of "Curious George" in the living room while I go back to sleep for another 25 minutes. I know...it's not going to win me Mother of the Year awards, but a girl needs her sleep. So this morning, Tyler woke up at 6:24...my alarm is set for 6:55. Yipee! for George. I stumble out to the living room, choose a random episode from the Replay line up and make my way back to bed. Fast forward to 6:55 and we repeat the process of me stumbling out of bed...still in my sleep clothes, no glasses/contacts on, brain not engaged...and I make my way to the kitchen to put on the toast for breakfast. I grab a bowl of frozen corn and bring it to Tyler in the living room and head back to the kitchen to finish the toast...as I start walking from the living room to the kitchen and my fuzzy brain begins to pick up on clues I should have seen before I notice this:

Yep...an open window. It is important to mention that when I said "sleep clothes" before, I meant a shirt that comes to my waist and some dainties. It's also important to mention that I have a neighborhood that is very active, very early in the morning. When I asked (screeched?) Tyler, "Did you open the window?!?" He calmly replied that he "needed to open it to see Lightening". While, I am not sure if any of my neighbors also got a peek at "lightening" this morning, I do know that I am going to have a difficult time meeting my neighbors' eyes the next time I see them.

In other news, Tyler is becoming quite the gymnast. He's been going to Break the Barriers for about a year now and really enjoys it. He recently got a blue ribbon and moved up one level!

So we popped up the road to Starbucks to celebrate with donuts and chocolate milk.

He's in the doghouse!

Tyler that is...His new thing these days is to pretend that he's a puppy...and in his role as a puppy, he really feels as though he needs to sleep in a doghouse rather than his bed. Now, it doesn't really matter to me where he sleeps because even though I know that a bed is more more comfortable than the floor, he seems to prefer the floor...even more so since he now has a dog house.

His other thing that is rather odd for a 3 year old is his desire to have a face mask (or scarf) when he's falling asleep....

Give me an S! Give me an O! Give me a C! Give me a K!

What's that spell??? Sock...and that's what I'm making...right now, a sock but hopefully (eventually) a PAIR of socks :-) I have been inspired by Jessica's Never-not-Knitting Pondering Production posts and Cindy's "Shout it from the rooftops" post and thought I'd share what is consuming my time this week...

I am taking a break from my previous Slipper obsession to use this awesome hand dyed 100% merino wool yarn that I got for Christmas (thank you Mom and Dad)! I love how the yarn colors just kind of randomly change and blend and then there are some colors that just pop...and I'm getting much better at using these blasted double pointed needles...

I completed 3 pairs of slippers (2 adult sized and 1 Tyler sized) but only 2 made it into the picture:

I took advantage of the lovely weather we were having (before this blessed rain!) to knit outside while watching Tyler jump on the trampoline. Please note the absolutely adorable, and super comfy RED Adirondack Chair that Mom found at Target. I LOVE this chair, but it gets super dusty so I have to cover it whenever I want to sit in it.

On a side (and totally unrelated note) We went the other day to look for a new company car for Doug since we sold the van and Tyler had to knock every single car that he passed by:

I'm not sure where he learned that you have to turn your hand over (palm up) and knock with one crooked finger, but that is what he did to EVERY car so I'm sure he had a reason. When I asked him, he just said, "Because that is how you have to do it." Can't argue with that logic!

22 January 2009

Oh Tyler love...

...you crack me up!!!

Yesterday Tyler and I were on the trampoline jumping our hearts out and I asked him (as I often do...) "Tyler, have I told you today how much I love you?"

Tyler: "No Mom. You didn't, but I already know...you love me this much" (said while holding his thumb and finger about a half an inch apart).

Me: "No, I love you this much" (said while holding my arms out as far as I could reach of course)..."and I think you're something special!"

Tyler: "Mom...are you going to keep me? or sell me??"

Umm...now, this comment, while TOTALLY cracking me up, requires a bit of back story before someone calls CPS...(tangent: is CPS still called CPS anymore???)

Whenever I tell Tyler that I think he's pretty special I also tell him that I think I'll keep him...but sometimes I tease him and tell him that I'm going to sell him...

Apparently he really does listen to me when I talk! Who knew???

Christmas Programs are Hilarious!

Tyler's School Christmas Program was absolutely a riot. These poor teachers have been practicing these songs with this group of kids for several months and Tyler has been coming home singing Away in a Manger, "Police Davidad" and Happy Birthday Jesus for a very long time. Tyler told me that "Police Davidad" (Feliz Navidad for those who don't speak 3 year old Spanish) was his favorite song because he got to shake the maracas. But of course about half way through each song, most of the kids got a little bored/distracted (hence the Christmas Programs are Hilarious post title!)

Tyler does Costco

How does one go through Costco with a 3 year old (who has Christmas on the brain) in tow??? VERY Slowly!!! We had to try out their play kitchen...
Test out the "Cars" Backrest pillow...in the middle of the aisle...
We tested out EVERYTHING that had a button to press...
Note to self: Only attempt Costco when nobody's tired, everyone's fed and you have all the time in the world!

I am JESUS!

(OK, Blasphemous title aside) I HAVE A FOLLOWER!!! Granted, Jesus has millions, I have 1; Jesus was worthy, my worthiness is yet to be determined; Jesus was...well, I could go on and on about how I am so NOT like Jesus...BUT in this one matter, I am like Jesus. To my follower...Thank you! I will try to be worthy of your devotion...to everyone else...Why aren't you my follower?
(for those who have no idea what I'm talking about...apparently blogspot has a thing called a follower to fascilitate greater ease in internet stalking the people in your life...)

Blog Report Card

Well, everyone know's how teachers just adore report cards and tracking growth and measuring, etc. So, I thought it would be fun to give my blog a report card based on Stephen's suggestions of blog analyzing tools.

The Readability-Apparently, I write at a High School Level on this blog.
The Gender Analyzer- Good News!! According to this, there is an 85% chance that this blog is written by a female! (what? do I put hearts where the dots should be on my "i" 's ???)
The Typealyzer Supposedly decides which side of the brain you use to write your blog. This analysis determined that I am of the ESFP personality type. Here's the handy dandy description they gave of me:
"The Performers
The entertaining and friendly type. They are
especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings
with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present
moment and don´t like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting
themselves. The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a
concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate
confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management
positions."

I would say they are partly right...I'm not so sure on the "rarely initiate confrontation" bit...if confrontation can increase my level of personal entertainment, I am more than happy to initiate confrontation...Case in point? "So, isn't it interesting that President Bush did " (you fill in the blank with whatever remotely controversial thing he may have done) and then sit back and watch the feathers fly...(Please note: this is especially entertaining with family because you know exactly which buttons to push to create the most entertaining diatribes.)

Random Tyler

Who says rags are just for washing??? For Tyler's birthday, he received a beautiful turquoise towel and set of rags from Aunt Sue and Uncle George. Tyler has decided that the rags make awesome blankets for those blustery days when even your head gets chilly.
Tyler's school took a trip to the pumpkin patch and this is the pumpkin he picked out to bring home with him. He was Soooo proud of it!
Tyler took his pumpkin over to his Grandma Carol and Papa Dale's house and he worked diligently with his two cousins, Jacob and Mary, to carve a massive amount of pumpkins.
Tyler's old Crocs broke, so Papa Mike went to get him some new ones from REI. Tyler was so pleased with them that the first night he had them, he wanted to wear them to bed.

Tyler was Spider Man for Halloween and he wasn't too sure about the whole door to door aspect of Trick-Or-Treating...but he was quite sure he enjoyed people giving him candy...

HeeHee....a REAL disclaimer!

*Dramatization. The cartoon shown used SLIMQUICK™ cleanse for 7 days to jump start her weight loss program, then continued to lose weight by adding other SLIMQUICK™ products to her diet and exercise routine. Results not typical. Cartoons lose weight easily. Real people require regular exercise and a reduced-calorie diet to lose weight.

I saw this on TBW and it is EXACTLY what I think whenever I see a commercial for a diet shake...or the Rock N' Roll Stepper that is sitting neglected in my living room...Funny thing about that stepper...I haven't lost a single pound since I purchased it...I guess you have to actually use it???

Tyler does own different shirts...

Hahaha...I just noticed that Tyler is wearing the same shirt in the last 3 blog pics that I posted...I swear he has more shirts, I just really like this one!

17 August 2008

The real use for duct tape...

So, Tyler has been very active of late and I have been exploring alternative parenting strategies. In my "research" I came across the true intended use for duct tape*. Tyler also had the opportunity to try out the Nintendo Wii Skiing game:

Please note his exceptional form and aerodynamically correct stance. He is definitely destined for the Olympics someday. His "training" must have made an impact because when I went in to bed he was sleeping very aerodynamically!

In Tanya News, I am still searching for a full time teaching position (which is becoming a little discouraging with the current budget "crisis"...I say "Crisis" because we seem to have plenty of money for other things, but not enough to hire teachers, give them adequate operating budgets, etc.) There is one more week before school starts so, theoretically, there is still hope. We'll see. I am trying to take the position that if it's meant to happen, it will happen. I'll let you know how that works out for me.

24 July 2008

I find myself with lots of spare time today

So, to begin...my sympathies for my faithful readers...I seem to have a lot of time on my hands today and so feel completely justified in posting one random blog today. Now for those who are thinking (hopefully to themselves instead of out loud) "Aren't all her posts pretty random?" JUST WAIT!

Last night I went to see Dark Knight. Awesome movie, freezing theater! I was wearing a tank top, which is great in the summer heat. It's NOT so great in a theater when you are sitting right under the vent.

Last week I asked my dad to install Bible software on my Palm Centro phone and the only way he was able to get it to work was to install it first on his computer and then sync my phone with his computer. Yay!! Bible to carry everywhere on my phone. Boo!!! HIS calendar synched onto my phone so I had to go into all the days that he had anything on his schedule and delete it. I never realized quite how many things my poor dad has on his calendar every day until that point. YAY!! Payback's a ...booger...Today (and apparently all this week) Dad's phone alarm went off at dinner time. The event? Music at Sierra Vista. The significance??? That was on MY calendar and is now on HIS phone. The funny part? I put alarms on all of my events so now he has to go onto his calendar to delete those things. HaHaHa...I think I have a touch of wicked in me because I think that is completely funny.

Did you know that a 2 year old can be signed up on the library's summer reading program and they can take their reading log in to the library to get prizes? Our log looks like this..."Can't you Sleep Little Bear?"..."Can't you Sleep Little Bear?" ..."Can't you Sleep Little Bear?"...well, you get the idea...Tyler likes to re-read...Yesterday we were reading it for a nap story. First page starts out like this (sadly from memory) "Once there were two bears. Big Bear and Little Bear. Big Bear is the big bear and Little Bear is the little bear." (next to this is a picture of a big bear and a little bear walking through the snow in the forest) So Tyler says, "Sometimes we call Big Bear Mother Bear." Me..."Oh???" And I keep reading. "Big Bear and ..." Tyler, "NO...sometimes we call Big Bear Mother Bear." Me (with the lightbulb above my head), "Do you want me to call Big Bear Mother Bear while I read the story to you today?" Him:"Yes!!" So we did...Dang my kid picks out long bedtime books...

I seem to have more time to people watch while I'm driving now with this new "hands free" law...the funniest thing to see? People reading their newspaper/magazine/etc. Umm...we have a law on the books about using phones, but nothing that says that you may not read while you are driving your car? hmm...I love America.

and now for the obligatory, a blog-post is not complete without pictures section of this post...About a month ago Aunt Lois was out here from Texas and we had a lovely brunch...
